Kauai Medical Clinic: Big time care, small town caring.

Kauai Medical Clinic combines the intimacy of a neighborhood clinic with the resources of Hawaii's largest multi-specialty clinic. Clinic physicians are in every neighborhood in Kauai to serve our island community.

In 1966, the hospital built an outpatient clinic with space for six physicians and 24 exam rooms. In 1967, the Kauai Medical Group was formed and joined the hospital as G.N. Wilcox Memorial Hospital and Health Center. In 1996, the clinic's name changed to Kauai Medical Clinic and was formally affiliated with Wilcox Memorial Hospital — which is collectively known as Wilcox Health.

The Evolution of Kauai's Healthcare Network

Today, the clinic has expanded to include 72 physicians and mid-level providers offering 22 medical specialties at six locations on Kauai. The clinic continues to provide the majority of primary and secondary care to Kauai's people. It is the island's only multi-specialty medical group and one of Hawaii's largest and most comprehensive medical practices.

The Kauai Medical Clinic has a main clinic adjacent to the hospital and satellite clinics around the island. Satellite clinics are convenient for patients living in different areas of the island. Some clinics also offer visits by specialists on specific days so that patients don't have to travel to Lihue. Making healthcare accessible to Kauai residents is a priority for Kauai Medical Clinic staff. By establishing community-based clinics, Kauai Medical Clinic continues to work toward exceeding patient expectations.

Kauai Medical Clinic operates in six locations, with the following specialties:

  • Main Clinic, located adjacent to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihue. Offering 22 specialties, including Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Gastroenterology, General Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Oncology and Hematology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, Rheumatology, Health Management Program, Radiology, Surgery, and Urology.
  • Kukui Grove Clinic in Lihue, which houses the Eye Care Center and Optical Shop and Dermatology.
  • Kapaa Clinic, family practice medicine on the east side of the island in Kapaa.
  • Koloa Clinic, family practice medicine in Koloa town.
  • Eleele Clinic, family practice medicine in the westside community of Eleele.

Service, Innovation, and Commitment

Because we provide access to specialty care, our small island community can receive the care they need without leaving Kauai. We are proud of the many highly skilled and board certified physicians in our practice. We have a full team of orthopedic surgeons, a foot specialist and, within the next few months, will add a physiatrist. Our affiliation with Straub and Kapi'olani will also add greater access to more specialists, such as an endocrinologist, urogynecologist, and others.

Through our affiliation with Hawaii Pacific Health, centers of excellence in women's health at Kapiolani Health, as well as cardiac care at Straub's Heart Center, are now within our reach. We are proud to help develop these centers while offering our patients the best care possible. We are also happy to offer family practice medicine at the majority of our satellite clinics, making care for the entire family available in each community.

Kauai Medical Clinic physicians, together with the clinic's independent physicians, form a large, highly skilled and reputable medical staff committed to our vision of a healthy community. The direction and support for the clinic, hospital and foundation are provided by community-based boards of directors.

Hawaii Pacific Health Partnership

Hawaii Pacific Health, a partnership uniting Wilcox Health with Oahu-based Kapi'olani Health and Straub Clinic and Hospital, is the product of two years of organizational assessment, design, planning and negotiating. An organization of shared resources has emerged through which Wilcox Health patients benefit.

Economic efficiencies in the following areas will allow us to continue our tradition of providing the best healthcare for our patients:

  • Facility planning.
  • Corporate compliance administration.
  • Legal process and risk management
  • Financial planning.
  • Strategic planning.
  • Human resource administration.
  • Revenue cycle management.
  • Information management and technology.
  • Marketing and public relations.
  • Fund development.

The end result will be a more comprehensive, responsive and patient-centered healthcare network.

An example of an immediate, tangible benefit to our patients is the Wilcox HealthLink — our Web-based medical library made possible through collaboration with our Hawaii Pacific Health partners.
