CSPD Open House

10/19/05

Sylvia Gibboney has been directing the Central Services and Processing Department at Wilcox Memorial Hospital for the past 15 years, and this week invited employees to see what she and the CSPD staff do behind the security doors on the second floor of the makai wing of the hospital.

What was originally built for surgery in 1938 has been renovated over the years to house the Central Services and Processing Department. With a staff of 5 supply clerks and a student intern, Ms. Gibboney directs the operations of the unit to assure that patient care supplies are decontaminated, prepared, assembled, sterilized and distributed properly. In addition, her department maintains and distributes the supply of IV solutions for the hospital and Kauai Medical Clinic. "It is International Central Services and Processing Week," said Ms. Gibboney, "and I wanted our employees here at Wilcox Health to learn about the functions of this department. This was an opportunity to show off our area, explain the many processes, and answer questions. Because we work in a secure area, other employees do not get to see all that we do during the day and this was a wonderful way to get to know some of the employees better." The Central Services and Process Department staff gave employees tours of the department and offered refreshments and prizes for correct quiz answers about CSPD's functions.
