Wilcox Memorial Hospital Employees Donate to Kauai Food Bank

03/17/09

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Wilcox Memorial Hospital employees gathered together for some good Irish fun by supporting the Kauai Food Bank’s annual spring drive. To enter the "Wilcox St. Patty’s Day If Can, Can," each employee was asked to donate either $5 or 5 of the most wanted food bank items. Held in the hospital conference rooms, employees enjoyed green cookies and punch, as well as many games and a grand prize drawing for a 2-night stay at Hanalei Colony Resort!

A total of $430 of monetary donations were raised as well as over 5 boxes of canned and dry foods.

Kathy Clark, President and CEO at Wilcox Memorial Hospital thanked employees for coming by and helping support Kauai’s families.

The Kauai Food Bank distributes about 70,000 pounds of food each month to respond to the approximately 6,000 requests for emergency food services. Half of those served are children and about 25% are elderly. The Food Bank collects food from the community, local grocers and farms and from off-island sources to serve about 70 charitable agencies that in turn feed their needy clients. The Kauai Food Bank is governed by an unpaid Board of Directors and Judith F. Lenthall has been Executive Director of the organization since 1995. The Kauai Food Bank is a proud member of the Kauai United Way.
